⚠️ Safety Warning: Engine oil becomes extremely hot during operation. Always allow the engine to cool for a few minutes before draining to avoid burns. Ensure the motorcycle is on a level surface and securely supported (on a paddock stand or center stand) when checking or changing the oil to get an accurate reading and prevent the bike from falling.
Yamaha YZF-R125 Oil Change & Level Guide
Proper lubrication is the most critical maintenance task for the YZF-R125. This guide covers the drain bolt location, oil filter replacement, and how to correctly check the oil level.
Oil Change Procedure
Drain Bolt: The 17mm drain bolt is located at the very bottom of the engine.
Sealing: Inspect the O-ring on the drain plug; if it is flattened or torn, replace it to prevent leaks.
Oil Filter: The oil filter must be replaced during every oil change. It is located behind a small circular cover on the right side of the engine.
Refilling: After replacing the filter and drain bolt, refill with the manufacturer-recommended oil grade (typically 10W-40 4-stroke motorcycle oil).
How to Check the Oil Level
Warm up: Run the engine for a few minutes, then turn it off and wait a few minutes for the oil to settle.
Level Surface: Hold the bike upright (not on the side stand).
Dipstick: Remove the dipstick (located on the right side of the engine), wipe it clean, and reinsert it. Do not screw it in to take the reading.
Reading: The oil level should be between the upper and lower marks on the dipstick.
