In 2014, we looked at the R125 as a simple, high-revving commuter. By 2026, the spec sheet looks more like a 600cc supersport. Whether you are buying a used Gen 1 or a brand new 2026 model, here is how the "Must-Buy" learner bike has changed over the years.

Quick Comparison Table: Gen 1 vs. Gen 4

1. The Engine Revolution (VVA)

The biggest technical leap occurred in 2019 with the introduction of Variable Valve Actuation (VVA).

  • The Benefit: It uses two different intake cam profiles. One for low-end "Income" (torque) and another that kicks in at 7,400 rpm for high-end speed. This keeps the bike learner-legal while making it much more flexible in traffic.

2. Chassis & Handling

While the Deltabox frame remains the backbone, the suspension has seen a massive upgrade.

  • Gen 1: 33mm conventional telescopic forks.

  • 2026 Model: 41mm KYB Upside-Down (USD) forks and a revised 26° caster angle for sharper turn-in.

3. Fuel Economy & Range

Despite the smaller 11L fuel tank on newer models, the efficiency has skyrocketed.

  • 2026 Spec: Claimed 134 mpg (2.1L / 100km).

  • The Reality: Even with a smaller tank, the theoretical range remains over 300 miles, making it one of the most efficient motorbikes for your wallet.
