1. The Anti-Judder Spring Seats
Inside the clutch basket, there are two specific spring seats designed to sit behind the first (smaller) friction plate.
The Function: These seats provide the necessary tension to ensure the plates separate and engage smoothly.
The Fix: If these are missing or incorrectly installed, the clutch can "nip" or bind, leading to a jerky take-off. Ensure they are seated correctly within the narrow-profile friction plate.
2. Clutch Drive Gear Rivets
A common but often overlooked source of noise is the primary drive gear attached to the back of the clutch basket.
The Symptoms: If you hear a "knocking" sound at idle that disappears when you pull the clutch lever, or feel a distinct shudder under load, check the rivets.
The Fix: Over time, the rivets holding the gear to the basket can work loose. If there is any play or movement between the gear and the basket, the assembly should be replaced to prevent further engine vibration or mechanical failure.
