Yamaha YZF R125 stand switch

⚠️ Safety Warning: A faulty side stand switch can cause your engine to cut out unexpectedly while riding or prevent the bike from starting entirely. Always ensure your side stand is fully retracted before moving.

Yamaha YZF-R125 Side Stand Switch Testing Guide

The side stand switch is a safety device that prevents the engine from running while the stand is down and the bike is in gear. If your bike won't start or cuts out as soon as you put it in gear, the switch may be faulty or dirty.

How to Test the Switch

Testing the switch is straightforward and only requires a basic multimeter.

  1. Locate the Connector: Find the electrical connector block leading from the side stand switch.

  2. Multimeter Setup: Set your multimeter to the Ohms (Ω) setting or the Continuity/Buzzer mode.

  3. Probing: Insert the test leads into the back of the connector block to touch the two wires.

  4. Observe the Reading:

    • Stand Up (Default): The circuit should be "closed." Your multimeter should buzz or show a near-zero resistance.

    • Stand Down: When you press the switch plunger (simulating the stand being down), the buzzer should stop, indicating an "open" circuit.

What if it Fails?
